If Valar/Eru was against Sauron, why did Saruman support Sauron? [duplicate]

This question already has an answer here:

Valar/Eru was supporting Men & Elves & Dwarves & Hobbits. They were against Sauron's evil purposes, and sent Gandalf to prevent this. Well, why did Saruman support Sauron although he knew The Great Beings was against it? Didn't he know in case of a failure in their evil acts, he would be rejected? Why ally with Sauron (who didn't really have any real power, just thousands of orc who are the worst warriors ever), instead of choosing side with the most powerful beings (Valar/Eru)? Gandalf was a smart fella. He knew Sauron would fail, because his orc warriors were terrible warriors, even a hobbit (Sam) could single handedly defeat 3 orcs on one-on-one combat. Sauron would no way succeed at war against men & elves, even if he had an army of 1 million orcs. Men & elves were great warriors. Let's say Saruman was successful and conquered the middle earth. Wouldn't Valar/Eru come down and destroy Sauron & Saruman as a punishment?
