Is Dragonball/Dragonball Z misogynistic?
In general, woman play no significant role in the series. The only powerful womanlike figure as far as I know is "Frieza", but he turns out to be a man. Several times he is referred to with "He", at least in the US-Dubbed version.
The only main female characters are Bulma and Chi Chi. While Bulma is kind of smart with technical stuff, it is her father who really creates the advanced technology. Her only purpose seems to be to be the mother of Trunks. It is also quite typical how little the main characters care about how she's faring during the fight with Frieza on Namek.
Lastly, the most mind-boggling argument is the episode "Goku's ordeal" in which Goku and Piccolo have to get their driver's license, because Chi Chi wants to have a car. Apparantly, the idea of a woman driving a car is so far off, that it's not even considered that maybe Chi Chi is the one who needs a driver's license, since she's the one that's in need of a car!
In general, it is also interesting to note that Goku - who is a moral God in the series - pretty much doesn't give a sh*t about Chi Chi. Just like with Bulma, her main purpose was served when she gave birth to Gohan.
Many more example can be found of derogatory portrayal of women in the series. Is this normal for this type of adolescent manga/anime or is it typical for Dragonball?
