After LOTR, HP, Artemis Fowl and Dan Brown's works, what should I read next?

I'm a big fan of sci-fi Novels, but I only like to read the best and the class, not everything. After reading all the mentioned novels, I feel that I've run out of modern English fiction literature. Can any of you recommend me what should I read next after this?

BTW, I was most disappointed when JKR finished the seventh novel and decided not to write more. There was a lot of scope to further Harry's portrayal as a university professor teaching new first-years after the downfall of He who must not be named. Why did JKR just stop writing? There were die-hard fans (there still are) and there was serious money to be made.
