Empty lines in Embperl output after conversion to Embperl 2

We tried to convert our EPLs from Embperl1 to Embperl2

One EPL started behaving very weirdly after conversion - it returns a valid HTTP response (text/xml content type), BUT, the actual response text is 100+ empty lines - instead of XML text that EPL1 version produced.

Debug lines show that the entire EPL gets processed, up till the closed XML tag printing.

What could be causing that?
