Did Saruman deal with Sauron?

In the third Hobbit film, Saruman tells Gandalf, Galadriel, and Radagast, to get as far from the Nazgul realm as possible, while he goes to handle Sauron alone.

However, we never see him again, for the rest of the movie. Saruman is obviously still good at this time, it's hard to believe he was evil all this time, with nobody noticing.

Did he go fight Sauron, during the film?
