How did Picard give a credit to time traveler in ST:TNG "A Matter of Time" episode

Somewhere in the middle of "A Matter of Time" episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, curious as always Riker says, that time traveller can be an impostor. Like many, they've seen so far. Captain Picard contrapoints this statement, claiming, that time traveler has all the credit he need, he had proven his words and that all circumstances verifies his story so far.

How can that be? Picard, as well as rest of the crew and episoder viewers has nothing (at least in my opionion) except time traveller's own words, to prove his story. The entire episode is set on the course, that someone suddenly appears, says what he says, and everyone else is to belive, he says turth and only truth.

So, is there anything, that I have missed, that supports Picards claims and actually confirms time traveller's story?
